Learning beyond the classroom - Our EFG-Erasmus+ week in Italy 2026
01.06.2026
We arrived in Bologna, Italy on Sunday evening May 3rd and were warmly welcomed by the families and students at the airport. After the greeting, we went to our host families’ homes. Some families had already prepared traditional Italian food for us. We kicked off the week with some ice-breaking activities and were shown the school which is much smaller than ours! Then we started working on the EU values. The next day we walked around the city of Sassuolo with its beautiful palace and even met the city mayor in his office. On Wednesday we took train to Modena where we visited the cathedral tower. Afterwards we had a creative workshop about traveling through Europe. In the afternoon we all went shopping.
We had more workshops the next day: theatre, music and science. In the science workshop we went to a river and observed small animals in the water and learned more about nature. In the theatre workshop we created and performed short scenes about “freedom”. In the music workshop we practiced and learned a song together as a group. It was a very creative and enjoyable day with lots of teamwork and fun for everyone.
We finished our exchange week reflecting on what we had learned. That evening we had a farewell party and showed the parents the projects we worked on. We enjoyed dancing and eating real Italian pizza with the Italian and Spanish students. On Saturday we had a family day and everyone spent time with their host family. I went to a jump house with my family, my friend, and her exchange partner. After that, we went to Bologna and explored the city center. We ate some Italian food and bought a few small things. Later, we went directly to the airport and flew back to Germany. Grazie mille for this wonderful experience!
